Wow. Wish I could have met her - which is a heck of a tribute to your characterization, I'd bet.

Oh, I think she was the kind of person who's just inherently interesting. I just wanted to deliver a remembrance that was worthy of the subject.

This is such a great story about your Grandma. She sounds absolutely amazing! Thanks for sharing!

I think she was amazing, but I recognize my own personal bias.

Ok, two things:

1) Love your Grandma...thank you for sharing her with us! Too fun!

You're welcome. Glad to share!

2) Uh, this is getting creepy...I, too, spent many MANY hours of my childhood driving to East Wenatchee to visit my grandparents. I remember my feet being stained red from running barefoot through their cherry orchard. I remember getting sick from eating too many cherries right off the trees. I remember the workers grinning down at me and passing me handfulls of cherries down from their perches atop high ladders. I remember home-made apricot fruit leather. In fact, I was just in East Wenatchee for a family reunion last weekend...surprised I didn't see you there! ;) At this point, we've got to be related somehow...

Based on the population of East Wenatchee in the early 80's, and the size of the subset of people that owned orchards...I'd say that if we're not related we CERTAINLY have several acquaintances in common.

If the names Knutson, Brody or Miller ring a bell, well...

What a wonderful tribute to your grandmother. I bet there wasn't a dry eye in the house for that one (not that there's any sniffling in this house right now, mind you).

Honestly, I was very surprised by how many people were affected by it. I had just hoped to deliver something mildly amusing and true to her memory.

what a KICK-ASS lady. and i mean that in the most respectful and demure way possible.

I can assure you, she would have taken that in exactly the way it was meant.
